Useful information for interior architects and furniture designers: what we need to know when choosing the wardrobes of a wardrobe or dress

Sisters_usi_glisante_galex_practik_1Once I asked an architect for an experience of almost 8 years in the design of furniture in one of the companies who died in Romania how to choose the system of sliding doors when it projects a dressing. He replied :: «… No. After planning we asked the engineer!» -«Every time?» -«YES».

So, you start creating. You don’t know how much you can do the doors, you don’t know how much systems cost. Work, draw. Go to a technical artist who must give you the solution, return, restore, perhaps he is expensive. Warge time and money. Perhaps it is also a car -teaching that has never struck you the problem.

-«And have you still asked the engineer that you have not learned?» -«No» was the answer …

In these times we have a great constraint: the price. The designer must be a small economist, if not a good marketing man or at least a good negotiator … However, a small psychology can help him make the relationship with the customer …

I say that a good knowledge of the materials in the project together with the correct acquisition of the customer’s request can successfully integrate the lack of experience as above.

At the moment there are two distinct needs of the market: the one induced and influenced by the designer for the larger doors, for perfect «surfaces». Hence the demand for frames of sliding doors without frames, which do not see the higher self and cover the edges of the furniture.

The second request is that requested and chosen by the customer; Porzy glsing doors, which cover from the floor to the ceiling but which have very affordable prices.

It must be known that the materials used are curved. Curves can become criticism if not controlled by the design.

The Pal, the painted or muddled MDF, the plaster plates or HPL are all curved under certain conditions and above all above certain size.

I surrender to the desire to have a big door to which we do not have a help profile, we risk «busting» the work.

In the past, the furniture is performed with «Overpoonable». Bodies up to 2.2 m high and others were built. Why? Because the rate of melamine or the plate veneered by the thicknesses 16, 18 or 19 mm is curved on this length. Put vertically and captured in the cornerstones (the cheapest closure version that does not allow the achievement of large doors) is a little curved and does not create big problems.Sisters_usi_glisante_galex_practik_3

But I wanted high doors. Closures of over 2.2 m for a while, perhaps up to 3 m in height. And both doors wide. This could be obtained only with the doors in the frame. The problem of deformation both vertically and horizontally (because over 1 me horizontal curvature) is resolved by the rigidity given by the frame. With a rigid frame capable of moving with wheels on a track, we can use various materials inside, as well as the crowded plate or the thinner plates. The ideal thickness of the sliding door plate is 10 mm to have sufficient horizontal rigidity but also to be easy and comfortable. We use glass, rattan, decorative sheets, HPL, painted MDF or combinations …

To an average door of about 2.5 m width and a width of one meter, almost all sliding doors systems go. The difference is the design, the reliability of the slide, etc. However, if the width of the door increases to over a meter, the height increases or increases the weight of the door, things change. With a bad opinion but from here we can no longer talk about any system. We want the biggest door, we often have to invest a little.

What can happen? Well … reliability. A good system lasts at least 15 years, one chosen inappropriate can last up to two, three years. The doors can be curved, they can no longer slide next to each other and we do not have a solution just for change. Changing the system in the same doors is often impossible (not as on cornerstones) and the same system means the same problems. We often come to the owners of wardrobes with Turkish wheels in hand trying to change them with the consecrated ones.

It is positive in the design to take into account the manufacturer specifications and the design limits.

But the designer often wants the big door applied. Imposing, elegant, Cover everything, you don’t see anything. I have to disappoint you: with the applied glsing doors systems you cannot get any size you want! They are not the doors of the ceiling floor, there are no doors to dress but the cabinet furniture! Here you will have to convince your customer of the limits or invest in a very solid and huge frame inside the door but also visible on the face!

How do I mean, I can’t create a two -way mdf furniture painted shiny: 1.4 m in oriozontal and 2.5 m on the vertical? Without any handle?

Yes, I can do. But most likely they will be curved. Although on the back we mounted (over 0.8 m wide) compensatory.

The width above can only be performed with the frame. Even with vertical help (and with rear compensators) we cannot pass 1.2 m wide.

The ideal dimensions for a door, so do not invest too much are large maximum 2.3 me 1-1.2 m wide.

Top_line_l_HettichFor those who remember physics: the external door slides over the internal door in the console. His arm causes the discharge on the ceiling a few cm from the direction of the weight of the door. That’s why there is a moment of this force that tends to rotate towards the wardrobe, therefore be curved.

Follow the dimensions of the doors marketed by Ikea or their sectional consmission in Kika and you will do justice.

Remember: to the systems of the doors in the frame (Galex Prack) in us the execution dimensions are not so critical. For external doors’ systems (as in the new LA Da Hetthich line) it is necessary to take into account the limits provided by the physics of this movement, weight and curves of the component materials.

If you don’t master the topic ask. Neither the customer nor the manufacturer want to risk in the case of a dress with a higher average price! When you see this type of product in magazines or stores, check the details: size, The materials and then the price. Only this is the customer who sees a «Italy» cabinet 2.3 m high with a serious back reinforcement can be convinced that his 2.5 months costs much more!

Usually the Romanian does not reach the costs of the order or «what is very much if the wardrobe is higher than 20 cm»!

To find out that any imagination (but at the cost) can be done, it is necessary to discover that one of our customers has performed with a system marketed by us, 2 m on the horizontal and 3 on the vertical! (The system has a robust and innovative frame on the back).
